This calendar celebrates and shares a unique American treasure: From 1886 to 1942, the U.S. Agriculture Department’s Division of Pomology commissioned thousands of watercolors, mostly from female artists, to create a national register of botanical illustrations. The results celebrate the diversity of fruit in exquisite artistic and scientific accuracy. The fruit seems to glow from within, as if the Roman goddess of fruit trees, Pomona herself, had nurtured it. Botanical information accompanies each watercolor.
